Core technologyPowers every Traction service

Hosted SMS

Text-enable the number you already have. Your voice service doesn't move.

The exact number already printed on your vans, invoices and Google profile can send and receive text messages. No new number, no reprinting, no carrier switch and no new hardware: calls keep ringing your handsets and voicemail, while texts route straight into the MomentumOS App.

1 · Core service architecture

One number, two routes.

Hosted SMS (also called hosted messaging or split service) lets MomentumOS text-enable your business's existing phone number without altering or porting its voice service. Your carrier keeps the calls; MomentumOS takes the texts.

Voice traffic isolation

Voice calls continue to ring your existing office handsets, PBX system or landline voicemail. Nothing about how you answer the phone changes.

SMS traffic routing

Text messages are offloaded at the registry level, using NetNumber (NNID) routing, and routed through the MomentumOS messaging gateway directly into the MomentumOS App.

Zero carrier switch

You don't switch telephone carriers, cancel your landline voice contract or buy new hardware. Your number stays exactly where it is.

2 · Line eligibility matrix

Which lines can be text-enabled.

Not every phone line can be hosted under a split-service configuration. This matrix governs line qualification across Canadian telecommunications networks.

Phone line typeHosted SMS eligible?Primary requirements / restrictions
Traditional ILEC landlineBell, Telus, SaskTelYesSigned LOA. The legal business name and service address on it must match the carrier's Customer Service Record (CSR).
Cable / CLEC business lineRogers, Cogeco, Videotron, EastlinkYesLOA matching the account details, including the legal entity name exactly as it appears on the bill. We verify the line is the primary copper or fiber landline, with no active backup SIM, and not a secondary wireless line.
Fixed hosted VoIPRingCentral, Dialpad, VoIP.ms, Ooma, GoCoYes, with conditionLOA matching the VoIP account details. The VoIP platform's native dashboard text messaging features must be disabled before you submit, on the platform that is giving up messaging.
Toll-free numbers800, 888, 877, 866YesRequires a RespOrg SOM (Service Order Form from the Responsible Organization that manages the toll-free number) or LOA verification.
Wireless / mobile linesBell Mobility, Telus Mobility, Rogers WirelessNoWireless carriers bind voice and SMS to the physical SIM profile, so split routing is blocked.
3 · Carrier-by-carrier policies

What each Canadian carrier checks.

Every underlying carrier enforces its own account verification standards before it releases messaging rights to a hosted carrier network. These are the rules, and the quirks that trip up applications.

A

Bell Canada & Bell Aliant

Incumbent exchange carrier · Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Canada

Policy
Fully supports Hosted SMS split routing on business landlines and Centrex lines.
Verification protocol
Bell validates the LOA details against the primary Billing Telephone Number (BTN) and the service address on record.
Carrier quirks
  • If you use a multi-line hunt group or an ISDN-PRI trunk, the LOA must list the primary BTN associated with the main Bell account, not an individual extension alias.
  • If Bell's legacy “Text-to-Landline” service (which converts texts to voice) is active on the account, Hosted SMS overrides and replaces that text-to-voice delivery.
B

Telus Communications

Incumbent exchange carrier · British Columbia, Alberta, parts of Quebec

Policy
Fully supports Hosted SMS through LOA and CSR (Customer Service Record) auditing.
Verification protocol
Telus strictly cross-checks the exact service address on the LOA against its internal CSR data.
Carrier quirks
  • Address mismatches, such as an omitted suite number or “Street” versus “Avenue”, result in automated rejection.
  • If your invoice shows a PO Box instead of the physical service address, a formal CSR request may be needed before the LOA is submitted.
C

Rogers Business & Shaw Business

Cable / CLEC networks · National

Policy
Supports Hosted SMS across all business voice and SIP trunking tiers.
Verification protocol
An LOA signed by an authorized account signatory, matching the monthly Rogers or Shaw statement.
Carrier quirks
  • Some Rogers business voice packages include a secondary wireless backup SIM. We verify that the line being hosted is the primary copper or fiber landline, not the secondary wireless line.
D

Cogeco Connexion & Videotron Business

Regional cable CLECs · Ontario, Quebec

Policy
Supports Hosted SMS split routing.
Verification protocol
A standard LOA whose legal entity name matches the Cogeco or Videotron bill.
Carrier quirks
  • Cogeco and Videotron business accounts are often registered under a legal corporate entity name that differs from the DBA (Doing Business As) name. The LOA must state the legal entity name exactly as shown at the top of the Cogeco or Videotron bill, character for character.
E

Fixed VoIP landline providers

RingCentral, Dialpad, VoIP.ms, Ooma, GoCo, Versature / Net2Phone

Policy
Supports Hosted SMS, but platform conflicts can occur if it isn't configured properly.
Verification protocol
A standard LOA matching the VoIP account details.
Carrier quirks
  • Routing collisions: many VoIP platforms have native text messaging switched on by default. If your staff keep using the text features inside RingCentral or Dialpad while Hosted SMS is active, inbound messages will collide or fail.
  • Prerequisite action: disable the native text messaging features in your VoIP portal before you submit your MomentumOS Hosted SMS authorization.
4 · Paperwork

One form, one call, one signature.

To activate Hosted SMS on an eligible Canadian line, you fill in a short form, answer one verification call and sign the Letter of Authorization online. We check your details against your carrier's records before anything is filed.

1

Our authorization form

A short online form we email you, already filled in with what we know. It takes about three minutes and you sign it on screen. It asks for:

  • Legal business name. Exactly as it appears on your phone bill, character for character.
  • Physical service address. Where the voice service is installed, in Canada, not a billing PO Box.
  • Current phone company. So we know whose records your details have to match.
  • Authorized signer. The name and title of an account holder or authorized manager on file with your phone company.
2

An ownership verification call

Our messaging provider, Twilio, phones the number once to confirm you control it. Someone at the business answers and follows the prompt.

  • Arranged with you. We agree a time, so the right person is there to pick up.
  • A person answers. If calls normally reach an automated phone menu, have them ring straight through to a handset for that call.
3

The Letter of Authorization (LOA)

Twilio then emails the authorized signer its LOA to sign online, through HelloSign. It grants permission to point the number's messaging route to the MomentumOS gateway. Sign it as soon as it arrives: nothing moves until it is signed. It contains:

  • Legal business / account name. Must match your current voice provider statement character for character.
  • Physical service address. The physical site address where voice service is installed, not a billing PO Box.
  • Telephone numbers to host. In 10-digit format (NPA-NXX-XXXX).
  • Authorized signatory. Signature, printed name and title of the authorized account holder on file with the voice carrier.
+

A recent phone bill (optional)

You can upload one with the form. It isn't required, but it lets us check your details against your carrier's records before filing, and we may ask for one if something doesn't line up. It should be:

  • Recent. Dated within the last 90 days.
  • Complete. Clearly displays the legal business name, the service address and the specific landline number being hosted.

Most rejections come from a mismatch between these details and the carrier's records. See common rejection reasons below.

5 · Timeline and service standards

Live in 1 to 5 business days.

Standard turnaround: 1 to 5 business days from a complete submission.

Day 1

Details check

  • Check your form details (and your bill, if you added one)
  • Audit A2P 10DLC registration details
Day 1–2

Filing and verification

  • File the hosted number order
  • Ownership verification call
  • You sign the LOA emailed by Twilio
Day 2–4

Carrier audit

  • Register NNID / carrier routing
  • The losing carrier (your voice carrier, which gives up the messaging route) audits the LOA against its CSR records
Day 3–5

Live activation

  • Texting live in the app
  • Inbound and outbound test messages

Pre-activation testing. Voice calling is never interrupted during the hosting process. Once the carrier switch completes at the messaging layer, MomentumOS dispatches test SMS messages to verify two-way routing before your services go live.

6 · Regulatory and compliance framework

Registered, consented and bilingual.

Every Hosted SMS line on MomentumOS must comply with the Canadian A2P (application-to-person) messaging guidelines enforced by Canadian mobile operators (Rogers, Bell, Telus), the industry's messaging guidelines (CWTA, now the Canadian Telecommunications Association) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

A

A2P 10DLC registration (mandatory)

Every landline number that sends automated check-ins or review requests is registered on The Campaign Registry (TCR) under a verified Brand and Campaign profile.

  • Legal business name verification. Must match your official Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) registration or provincial Master Business Licence records.
  • Business Number (BN) verification. Canadian businesses submit their 9-digit CRA Business Number or Federal Tax ID.
B

Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

Explicit opt-in: review requests and customer text check-ins must be triggered by a direct customer transaction or explicit consent.

Bilingual keyword processing, enforced automatically in every workflow:

C

Your website's privacy policy

To pass Canadian carriers' 10DLC brand audits, your public website must feature a visible Privacy Policy that contains this explicit messaging consent language:

No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
7 · Common rejection reasons

If a carrier says no, here's the fix.

Almost every rejection is a paperwork mismatch, and each one has a standard resolution.

Rejection reasonCauseResolution action
Address mismatchThe LOA lists a billing PO Box instead of the physical installation (site) address.Obtain the CSR from your voice provider and update the LOA to match the physical service address.
Name mismatchThe LOA was signed under a DBA name instead of the legal corporate entity on the bill.Re-issue the LOA using the exact legal entity name shown at the top of the phone bill.
Unauthorized signatoryThe signer isn't listed as an account owner or authorized manager with the losing carrier.Have the primary account owner sign the LOA, or add the staff member to the carrier account as authorized.
Wireless number errorThe number submitted is a mobile SIM line, such as a cell phone.Wireless numbers can't be hosted through split service. Provision a dedicated MomentumOS landline or toll-free number instead.
Active messaging collisionThe losing VoIP carrier has native messaging switched on in its portal.Log in to the RingCentral, Dialpad or other VoIP portal and disable the native SMS feature.
Verification call missedThe ownership verification call went unanswered, or reached voicemail or an automated phone menu.Agree a new time with us, and have calls ring straight through to a person for that call.
LOA not signedThe Letter of Authorization emailed by Twilio hasn't been signed, so the request can't move.Sign it from the HelloSign email. If it can't be found, we have it re-sent.

Good to know

Straight answers.

Will my phone calls be interrupted?

No. Voice calling is never interrupted during hosting. Calls keep ringing your existing handsets, PBX or voicemail; only text messaging is routed to MomentumOS.

Do I need to switch carriers or cancel anything?

No. You keep your voice carrier, your contract and your hardware. You fill in a short form, answer one verification call and sign an LOA online; your carrier only checks it against its records.

We use RingCentral or Dialpad. What do we need to do?

Turn off the native text messaging features in your VoIP portal before you submit the authorization. If they stay on, inbound messages will collide or fail.

How long does it take?

Typically 1 to 5 business days from a complete submission. Most delays come from an LOA that doesn't match the carrier's records exactly; the rejection table above shows how each is fixed.

What happens to texting if I cancel?

We stop hosting messaging on your number. Your voice service is unaffected.
