How segments work
Carriers bill by segment, not by message. The characters in a message decide how big each segment can be.

One emoji changes the price of the whole message. Adding a single emoji or special character switches the entire text from GSM-7 to UCS-2, cutting the segment from 160 to 70 characters and potentially doubling or tripling the cost of a longer message.
Outgoing and incoming rates are all-in usage charges that include Canadian mobile network pass-through surcharges, including Rogers, Bell, Telus, Freedom Mobile and SaskTel. Automated messages follow Canadian anti-spam and carrier rules, including bilingual STOP / ARRET opt-out processing.

A business sends 300 outgoing texts and receives 150 replies in a month, each one segment long.

With the full review sequence. If all 300 customers go through the complete check-in, invitation and reminder sequence, averaging about 2.65 segments each, that's about 795 outgoing segments: 795 × C$0.046945 = C$37.32. Add C$3.18 incoming and C$2.85 line hosting and the month comes to C$43.35.
Both totals fall within the initial C$50 credit. When your balance drops below C$5, the credit recharges automatically. Neither total includes carrier lookups: if all 300 recipients are new contacts, add 300 × C$0.012136 = C$3.64. Arithmetic examples, not a typical bill: they also exclude picture messages, multi-segment messages and tax.

Is there a setup fee?
Not for Traction: setup and onboarding are included. Velocity has a C$497 one-time setup fee for the website build. Otherwise the one-time fees are optional: C$150 for Google Business Profile setup if you don't have a verified profile, C$60 for the WhatsApp add-on, and the setup fees for Velocity add-ons. The C$50 usage credit isn't a fee; it funds your text messages.
When can I move to Velocity?
Once you've completed your Traction trial. The trial is when onboarding happens, Listings Management is set up and your website content is prepared, and during it you can request mock website designs, a site audit and a free website consultation. The C$497 website setup fee starts the build.
What happens after day 30?
Unless you cancel before the trial ends, Traction continues automatically at C$297 a month plus applicable tax and usage, and Listings Management switches on.
Can I cancel any time?
On the monthly plan, yes: cancel before your next billing date and you won't be billed again, with no early termination fees. Monthly fees aren't prorated and outstanding usage remains payable. Annual payments are non-refundable: your service runs to the end of the paid year and then doesn't renew.
Why is usage billed separately?
Because it varies from business to business and month to month. You pay for the texts actually sent and received, and you can see your balance and usage at any time.
Do the rates change?
The rates are fixed in Canadian dollars and include Canadian mobile carrier pass-through surcharges (Rogers, Bell, Telus, Freedom Mobile and SaskTel). We give advance written notice before changing them.
Do emojis really cost more?
Yes. A single emoji or special character switches the whole message from GSM-7 to UCS-2 encoding, cutting a segment from 160 characters to 70. A long message can cost two or three times as much. We keep your automated wording plain-text for that reason.
Is my business eligible?
Every client needs an established business phone line (a landline, a fixed VoIP line or a toll-free number, not a mobile) and a verified Google Business Profile, among the five service requirements. We check them before your trial starts. The line eligibility matrix shows which phone lines can be text-enabled.
